Off the back of arguably the Easts Tigers best win of the season, Will Kirk and James Livingstone were elevated into the Colts rugby Team of the Week
Easts defeated Bond University 32-14 in what was an extremely satisfying result for coach Tyrell Barker.
Asked what impressed him most, Barker said: “Our defence was outstanding, our urgency and tackle accuracy. And we were very clinical in our attack as well.’’
Barker indicated it was “by far’’ his team’s best performance, given the quality of the opposition.
“Bond are a good team as well. They play well, tackled well and were very physical with good players.’’
Leading the way for Easts colts half Will Kirk, a veteran of three seasons in colts.
“His game management is very strong,’’ Barker praised.
James Livingstone, a second year colt from nearby Villanova College, rose to the occasion to impact the match.

Bond coach Brendan Jones lamented the number of errors his team made.
Indeed he said it was not possible to make six or seven errors against top four teams and not expect some of those mistakes to be converted into points by the opposition.
Jones said there was no need to panic and with more composure “we will be fine’’.
“We had a mindset of working on some things this week and we got them right, so there are some positives for us in the bigger picture,’’ Jones said.
Hulking No. 8 Marlon Jones was again outstanding for Bond University.
“Dominates every time he carries the football,’’ praised Jones.
He said halfback Lochie McGinness was also outstanding, while everyone else around them were “pretty solid’’.
There will be some sore bodies aplenty after a physical GPS v Norths encounter was won 26-5 by GPS.
The Galloping Greens won, but it was close, just 7-5 into the second half, before GPS finished with a flourish.
Again Norths were led by half George Stokes who has been so impressive this season, he has had Premier grade experience.
But prop Josh Mongard was again elite while lock Lucas Boylan tried hard.
“Josh is the standout loosehead prop, and being an 18-year-old prop in an under 20 competition, he is outstanding,’’ said Norths coach Dan Ritchie.
He said hard working backrower Ben Byrne, hooker Tevita Kaitu’u and fly-half Bas Ward were his best.
Ward, whose uncles are Wallabies Anthony and Daniel Herbert, and whose father boxed for Australia at the Commonwealth Games, was rewarded by playing the last eight minutes of Premier grade.
GPS coach Sio Kite praised the defence of his side.
“Our line was great, our attack was good and we were able to wear down a tough Norths side,’’ the GPS coach praised.
At St Lucia, Souths and University played out a 24-all draw.
It was a thriller, with University driven to the brink of victory by impressive lock Will Robinson and first year colt Hugo Percival.

Percival, a mobile lock or blind flanker, is the son of a former outstanding University first grader Chris and was a member of last season’s BBC GPS First XV premiership winning side.
Souths coach Chris Coward was delighted with the effort.
“It was a good comeback from Souths. Every week we are improving which is good,’’ he said.
Wests caused a stir with a 19-10 victory over Brothers which had the kennel crowd roaring.

It must be stressed that Brothers were depleted at stages, although Wests rally against such a well drilled side was impressive.
“We kept creating chances, despite being 14 men for 40 minutes, and 13 men for an additional 20 minutes,’’ praised Brothers coach Tony Wall.
Wests coach Rob Roiri said his team grasped their chances and the side was “starting to understand we are top team’’.
“We have belief. We are starting to get the mentality that we are worthy. We are staying in the dogfight.’’
He said the colts competition was old school footy where players work hard on the field, but when they come off they “realise how lucky we are to be playing football’’.
For Wests a young colts winner shone on debut, with Lachlan Rubens outstanding while centre Jordan Bell came of age.
Fullback David Vaihu was also classy, but probably the best was No. 8 Taine Roiri.
