Another stunning round of club rugby has sailed on by and here we unveil our round four Teams of the Week in the Colts 1 and StoreLocal Hospital Cup competitions.
In Hospital Cup action, the Red Heavies 25-22 defeat of Brothers was a highlight, along with GPS’ exciting 43-38 win over Sunnybank. In Colts 1 footy, GPS claimed their first win of the season over the Dragons while University, Bond and Souths were also winners.
AIC FIRST XV ROUND 1: HOW IT ALL UNFOLDED
Some selection highlights in Hospital Cup included the following:
+ GPS loosehead Malakai Taulani who was a scrum time king at Sunnybank;
+ University hooker Jake Tierney who returned from a week off in style with four pilfers;
+ Sunnybank difference maker Zac Sheppard proving a class above before concussion protocols meant the Dragons had to finish the game without their best player on the day;
+ Outstanding GPS flanker Matt Gicquel continued to impress with two more tries, sheer physicality and his aggression. Gicquel is playing elite rugby and has turned heads this season following a top notch finish to last season.
+ Tigers youngster Henry Wilson scored two tries in a gallant effort by Easts;
+ Liam McNamara and Francis Pona combining nicely for Sunnybank in the backline;
+ Livewire scrumhalf Will Cartwright having a sound performance in his starting debut, setting up a Grason Makara try with his textbook scoot from the ruck;
+ Norths hooker Josh Mongard playing out of skin yet again. He scored the try of the game at Norths and was physical around the park;
+ 21-year-old Noosa No. 8 Leo Langbridge breaking tackles left right and centre for big improvers Norths.
