The Associated independent Colleges (AIC) private schoolboy organisation has announced its plans to resume school sport by term 3.

The AIC board met today following an easing in the COVID-19 crisis which closed all school, community and professional sport in late March.

“The college principals of the Associated independent Colleges remain hopeful that competition can recommence in Term 3,’’ a statement said.

“As always, the safety and welfare of our students, families, staff, volunteers and the broader community will have utmost priority in any decisions about returning to AIC competitions.

“The member Colleges are still committed to offering a diverse range of sporting opportunities in Term 3 that allow for optimal student participation including sports that were cancelled in Term 2.

“The decision on the program and draws for the sports offerings in term 3 will be made when the AIC is given clear advice and direction from the Australian and Queensland Governments and medical authorities.

“We acknowledge that today’s National Cabinet meeting has outlined a three-step plan for Australia’s recovery from COVID-19 and that the states will determine a timetable for those steps.

“Whilst we understand that many of our young people and families are hoping for a decision, the Management Committee is appreciative of their support and will release further information to the communities of the member Colleges as soon as possible.

GPS association announce return to school sport by term 3

The AIC sporting competition is one of the richest nurseries for sport in the country, with a long history in producing elite rugby, rugby league, swimmer, Australian football, hockey and water polo international players, among other sports.

The AIC member schools are Iona College, Marist College Ashgrove, Padua College,

St Edmund’s College, St Laurence’s College, St Patrick’s College, St Peters Lutheran College and Villanova College
