Teen charged with alleged Sunnybank rideshare driver armed robbery

UPDATE: A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the alleged robbery of a southside rideshare driver at knifepoint, an hour after two youths allegedly demanded car keys and a wallet from another man.

Police are on the hunt for two passengers who robbed a rideshare driver.

Detectives from Morningside Child Protection and Investigation Unit this afternoon charged a 16-year-old boy after an alleged armed robbery in Sunnybank early this morning (May 11).

It will be alleged that just before 12.30am, the boy was inside a rideshare vehicle on Dixon St, Sunnybank when he threatened the driver with a knife before stealing his car.

The driver, a 32-year-old Algester man, was not injured.

Police will further allege the boy and a male passenger fled the scene in the stolen blue 2017 Kia Cerato before abandoning the vehicle in Pimpama.

The car was later found by police.

The 16-year-old Pimpama boy was taken into police custody soon after.

He has been charged with one count each of enter dwelling and commit, attempted armed robbery, armed robbery and unlawful use of motor vehicle.

He is due to appear at Brisbane Childrens Court at a later date.

Investigations are continuing.

Police believed the incident might be linked to an attempted armed robbery earlier that night.

It is believed a 22-year-old man was approached by the two youths, who were parked outside a convenience store on Mains Rd at 11.30pm.

They allegedly approached him with a knife and demanded he hand over his car keys and wallet.

The man refused before he fled on foot and ordered a rideshare home.

His vehicle, a Mazda CX-5, which was parked at the convenience store, had its tyres deflated.

He also was not injured.

Police are investigating both incidents.
