Lilly Meldrum is fast making a name for herself in snooker.

The 10-year-old last month won the national under 12’s mixed and national under 18’s girls snooker championships.

She said as a result of the wins, her confidence had grown.

“My performance has given me confidence in the future as it ties in with my dream to become a pro,’’ she said.

“It proves that you can achieve anything if you work hard enough.

“It shows that girls can do anything that boys can do and that we are equal.’’

Meldum started in the sport after playing on the family pool table.

“I became interested and started practising. I could sink almost any ball and that is when my dad decided to take me to coaching,’’ she said.

Meldrum said she loved snooker for the challenge and it also improved her concentration, patience and hand-eye coordination.
