GPS First XI football round 4 Team of the week revealed

Our GPS First XI football round four Team of the Week includes a starpower BBC Year 11, a goalscoring ace from Toowoomba Grammar and a son of a gun from Nudgee. See the full side here.

The BSHS and Nudgee Captains, Roman Galanos and Declan Parkinson respectively. Both boys have been selected in the Football Queensland Talent Support Program and have had the honour of being selected to trial for the Under 17 Australian Joeys team.

The closest GPS First XI football season in years is unfolding, with another action packed round pending on Saturday when Nudgee take on Brisbane Grammar.

But before that, let us look back on last week and highlight the players of the round in our weekly Team of the Week.

Round 4 saw Brisbane Grammar and Nudgee College assert themselves, while Toowoomba and Ipswich continued on their way as premiership hopefuls.

Toowoomba Grammar beat BBC 2-0

Gregory Terrace drew 1-1 with Ipswich Grammar

Brisbane Grammar beat The Southport School 3-1

Nudgee College beat Brisbane State High 3-0

Toowoomba Grammar beat BBC 2-0

For the third time this year the Jamie Morgan coached BBC team were unable to secure a result despite playing excellent football.

Although the BBC boys lacked the finishing touches, they tested Toowoomba more than any other team so far this year.

They had spirit and grit, you need look no further than a 0-0 half time score which indicated that neither team could be separated.

In the second half, Toowoomba was able to capitalise on their chances and pull away, registering the win at home.

Evan Msonga (BBC)

A step above.

Msona, Year 11, was calm and collected at the back, controlling play and setting the standard with another strong showing.

In the first half, Msonga made half a dozen charging runs up the field and came ever so close to scoring.

Jack Harris (BBC)

In the midfield Harris was just strong and tough, winning the one-on-one battles.

“Really good. You know what you’re going to get,” described BBC football director Andrew King.

Richard Dean (Toowoomba)

It should come as no surprise that Dean scored again, keeping his scoring percentages high each and every game.

Dean was well supported by Jacob Austin who scored his first goal of the season.

Gregory Terrace drew 1-1 with Ipswich Grammar

The undefeated Ipswich Grammar were fronted by a hungry Terrace side looking to bounce back after a disappointing 3-1 round 3 loss against Nudgee.

And they very nearly did with a win. But, the visiting Ipswich boys weren’t going to bow down easily.

Nelson Deng (Ipswich Grammar)

Deng spearheaded the Ipswich defence.

Strong at the back, Deng dazzled with his aerial ability.

Calm and composed according to Ipswich head of sport Nigel Greive.

Orlando Corrie (Ipswich Grammar)

Corrie was Deng’s right hand man, defending the house down against Gregory Terrace’s best attacking threats.

Sani Logoro (Gregory Terrace)

Logoro scored midway through the first half for Terrace and was a stand out player throughout the game, popping up everywhere as an option for his teammates.

Gabe Weldemariam (Gregory Terrace)

Weldemariam made his starting debut and made one hell of an impact with his high workrate.

Matheus Irelandes-Mota (Gregory Terrace)

Irelandes-Mota was a consistent threat throughout the game’s entirety, the Year 10 showing enormous potential.

Brisbane Grammar beat The Southport School 3-1

Southport suffered yet another frustrating loss, this time to Brisbane Grammar.

Receiving a red card in the 12th minute did not help their cause, the visitors going 1-0 down not long after.

A highlight came from Zen Pizzinat who provided an excellent assist to Matthew Surgeon who smashed a great finish in with his left foot.

Despite playing with 10 men again, the Gold Coast boys worked hard and didn’t stop fighting until the end.

Leading the way for Brisbane Grammar was Will Gatehouse and Daniel Qu and goal scorers Kobi Griffiths and Vincent Van Brunschot whobagged a double.

Nudgee College beat Brisbane State High 3-0

Brisbane State High defended well and showed a bunch of character, holding Nudgee at bay for a lengthy period to begin the game.

After missing the chance to capitalise on an early goal, Brisbane State High eventually went down 1-0 after the Nudgee boys applied the pressure,

Then, last year’s premiers stormed away with it with a controlled second half performance.

Rylan Brownlie (Nudgee)

Brownlie, son of Royce, showed how clinical he can be and scored two crucial goals, including the all important first goal.

Charlie Parkin (Nudgee)

Parkin was a cool customer on the ball, knowing when to switch play and when to drive forward.

Lachie Cook (Nudgee)

Cook’s hold up play had been developing and on Saturday he allowed the ball to stick up top, bringing his midfielders into the game nicely.
