The Brisbane State High School old boy was also close to personal best times in the hurdles, 100m, 1500m and 400m events.

And according to his coach Eric Brown, Dubler has an even better score still in the bank.

“His jumps, which are his strength, were down because of a hamstring and knee injury,’’ Brown said.

“He was unable to do any run up work leading into the competition.

“His score of 8101 was yet another score over 8000 points which is hard to achieve in a decathlon.

“He has the highest 8000 points ever by any Australian decathlete in history.’’

Indeed Dubler’s 11th placing was the highest placing of an Australian in any world championship or Olympics since the 1956 Olympic Games.

Dubler, who coaches at Brisbane Boys College, has marked his next major competition as the national titles in Brisbane in February.
