A 28-year-old record was broken as Olympic swim prospects Elizabeth Dekkers and Bronte Job helped power All Hallows’ School to a ninth successive Catholic Secondary Schoolgirls’ Sports Association aggregate trophy carnival today.
Rising butterfly prospect Dekkers smashed the CaSSSA record set in 1992 by former Australian swimmer Julie Maher when she launched her way down the pool to claim the 100m open event in 1:02.46 – well ahead of Maher’s previous mark of 1:03.43 set in 1992.
Job, who won a gold medal at the 2019 world junior swimming championships, also broke a competition record (open 50m backstroke) on her way to eight first placings – three of which came in relay teams.
All Hallows has not lost a CaSSSA carnival since Steve Miller arrived as head coach nine years ago.
Yesterday All Hallows’ were challenged by St Rita’s College who closed to within 50 points of their rivals, but All Hallows’ won 14 of the final 19 relays to push on and win well.
The final placings were: All Hallows (1273), St Rita’s (1186), Mt St Michael’s (1020), Loreto College (933), Lourdes Hill College, (704), Brigidine College (698) and Mt Alvernia (673).
In the Percentage Cup, St Rita’s won from Mt St Michael’s and Loreto College.
Aside from individual records by Job and Dekkers – both teammates on the 2019 Australian world junior championship team – that pair also linked with Piper Brien and Joesphine Crimmins to break the CaSSSA 19 years, 4x50m relay record.
Hats off also to the MSM 14 years 4x50m relay team which also claimed a record.
Crimmins, who is part of the crack Mermaids water polo team that has not lost a match in five years, had a huge meet by winning three individual events in the 15 years age group and being a member of three winning relay teams.
Brien, who like Dekkers and Crimmins is coached by Miller at the Newmarket Racers Swim Club, added her class to a number of crack relay teams.
All Hallows won the first event of the meet when Job claimed the 100m open freestyle title from Nicole Sanders (St Rita’s) and Casey Hannah (MSM), but All Hallows did not have it all their own way.
Mt Alvernia’s Kaitlyn Di Francesco won her first of three events in the 12 years 50m freestyle followed by MSM’s Siena Nicholson who pipped St Rita’s Arabella Templeton.
But Crimmins (15 years, 50m freestyle) and Brien (16 years 50m freestyle) got All Hallows back on the board again, despite Crimmins water polo club mate Lily Carrick (St Rita’s) pushing hard in her race against Brien.
Then came Job’s record breaking 50m freestyle when she beat home Nicole Sanders (St Rita’s) and Sophie Gahan (Lourdes Hill).
BRONTE JOB INVITED TO ELITE TRAINING CAMP
One of the biggest roars of the day came when Brigidine College’s Tiare Matapo won her Division 1 multi class 50m freestyle.
There was an excellent swim for a minor placing backstroke by Lourdes Hill’s Lucy Peers (second to Job) while Di Francesco won again for Mt Alvernia in the 50m backstroke.
Hannah Casey (14 years, 50m backstroke) gave MSM more success while Emily Lucas (St Rita’s) and Tabatha Fachin (MSM) filled the minor placings against Job in the open 50m backstroke.
All Hallows’ Brien emerged from the shadows of Dekkers, Job and Crimmins to win both the 100m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke double and there was more success for Di Francesco in the 12 years 50m breaststroke.

Loreto College also enjoyed wins in the 13 years 50m breaststroke by Nicole Vitanza and the under 19 50m breaststroke courtesy of Elke Becks, while Mt Alvernia’s Inde Basche had a moment to cherish in the 14 years 50m breaststroke as did Dana Gronbach (All Hallows).
In the 50m butterfly Siena Nicholson (MSM, 13 years) and Elloise Doolan (All Hallows’, 14 years) won their age groups ahead of an onslaught from Dekkers, Crimmins and Job.
Toward the end of the individual races, St Rita’s Garrick (200m open freestyle) produced an outstanding win.
Samantha Conias from St Rita’s also had an outstanding win in the 12 years 50m butterfly.
Job, who swims with the Rackley Centenary Club, has a huge meet, swimming in nine events for eight wins and a third place.
