A popular cafe in a Brisbane shopping centre, with a devoted customer base, will close for good today, as the owner shared her journey and her love for the community.
Raman Kaur opened Muffin Break in Mt Ommaney more than two years ago and said it has been an amazing experience
“My staff and I worked so hard to be a staple in the Mt Ommaney community, closing has been a very difficult decision and not one I made lightly,” she said.
“The hardest part of this process was saying goodbye to both my loyal staff and customers. I truly thank them for their love and support and I will forever miss them.”
Ms Kaur said she tried to give customers affordable, fresh options which had its challenges.
“In our current economy it’s very challenging to run a business. We strived to make incredible fresh wholesome food, as cheap as possible.
“We offered several options of food in a deal with a small coffee for under $10, we had to work extra hard to generate that $10 sale.
“The food court is going through a huge redevelopment, the process of the build is more than four months so I cannot realistically afford to demolish this location and build a new location.”
The news about Muffin Break’s closure was met with sadness in community groups online.
One user said the food brought back great memories.
“The muffins were exactly the same as my childhood, so beautiful and fluffy. I will be sad to see them go,” they said.
Another user remembered the owner’s positive spirit and hospitality to the community.
“She is such a beautiful lady, I can’t believe it. Where am I going to get my coffee now?
“Raman, I wish you all the very best for you and your family’s future,” said one social media commenter.
Muffin Break in Mt Ommaney will pour its final coffee on February 20 as the food court continues its revamp.
