World tennis No.2 Ashleigh Barty has floored her former coach Jim Joyce with a gift “that means everything to me’’.

World tennis No.2 Ashleigh Barty has floored her former coach with a gift from her historic French Open victory.

Barty, who is currently competing at the US Open, gave her junior mentor from the West Brisbane Tennis Centre, Jim Joyce, the racquet she won the Grand Slam tournament with.

Joyce said when Barty ushered him to her car last month, he thought she was going to give him some gifts for his juniors.

“She often gives me bags of sweat bands and things for them,’’ he explained.

“But she gave me this framed photo of the racquet she won the French Open with.’’

Joyce said he was moved by the gesture. “Mate, you’ve got me (emotionally),’’ he said to Barty.

She said back to him: “Well Jim, there was only one person that was ever going to get this racquet.’’

Joyce said more than the racquet and the framed photos, it was the thought Barty put into the gift that was most moving. “Tome this is everything,’’ he said.
