How this Brisbane teen sold his painting to Youtube celeb boxer Logan Paul

A 17-year-old Brisbane student has pulled off an art coup, selling his Pokemon painting to bad boy boxer and Youtuber Logan Paul to hang in his $13m Caribbean mansion. Here’s how he got the star to buy the work.

A 17-year-old Kenmore artist has become an overnight success which has set tongues wagging among his school mates and teachers.

Jensen Dean offloaded the Pokemon-inspired painting to Youtuber and bad boy boxer/wrestler Logan Paul, whose antics in and outside the boxing ring have attracted 85 million social media followers.

Paul recently posted photos of himself with the striking art work, which will hang in Paul’s $13 million Puerto Rico mansion.

Jensen said he was unable to reveal the sale price, but the coup has convinced him to embark on a career in painting and videography when he graduates from school.

“I’m a really big fan of his (Paul) so I painted this specifically for him,’’ he said.

“I didn’t have any connection to him, so once I finished the painting I sent emails and DMs (Facebook direct messages) to people who knew people, who knew people who knew him.

“It took some months to get his attention, but then he contacted me and said he wanted it.’’

Paul is well known for his love of Pokemon. He revealed in January this year that he had been scammed after buying $3.5 million in fake Pokemon cards.

“Everyone at school is talking about it and even one of the teachers saw it on social media,’’ Jensen said.

“Most of them are still in disbelief.

“I remember my phone beeping. I looked to see who it was and saw three messages from Logan.

“I’m thrilled he really likes and supports my art.

“It is a big deal because he could buy famous artworks anywhere but instead, he wanted mine, from a kid in Australia who he’s never met.

“Logan is the first big celebrity interested in my art so he’s prompted me to paint for other celebrities and pursue painting or maybe film-making as a career”.

Amazingly, Jensen didn’t seriously take up art and videoing his works until about a year ago after a friend got him to do some graffiti art on a band practice room wall.

“I wanted some pocket money so then I started doing bedroom graffiti for parents whose kids wanted their names on the walls,’’ he said.

Jensen now has 5000 Instagram followers on his @thejensendean (https://www.instagram.com/thejensendean/) account and has set up a website, http://jensendean.com/

Some of his art videos are already viral hits.

“The ideas just come into my head, often in the middle of the night; some of my best paintings are still in my mind, I just have to paint them out”, he said.

Jensen is currently working on new projects and is in the process of communicating with two other, undisclosed celebrities.

“I’m working extremely hard and flattered that my hustle is starting to pay off. I know this year is going to be meteoric for me,’’ he said.

“I thank everyone who has supported me”.
