A VISIT to a farm rescue took an unusual turn when a large goat jumped on the roof of a minibus at Dayboro northwest of Brisbane this week.
Bardon-based community group Communify visited Farm Animal Rescue with clients as part of a day designed to support vulnerable people in the community.
Rescue president Brad King said the goat’s name is Solomon and he’s a resident at the farm, but even he was shocked by the effort.
“We have never seen any of them get so high up on a bus before,” he said.

“Solomon is quite large — about 2m when he gets up on his back legs — so if anybody was going to get on top of a bus it would be him.”
Mr King said many of the farm’s resident goats had escaped from saleyards or slaughterhouses, or had come from rescue organisations.
“So we have a big bunch of happy, friendly, jumpers and climbers,” he said.
Solomon was also able to get off the roof of the bus using the same technique he used to get up there.
“He got his front legs on the windscreen wipers and used them as leverage to project himself onto the roof, and then back to the ground,” Mr King said.

“The goats will always jump off vehicles when the engine is turned on - they don’t like it when the ground moves beneath them, and therefore one of the reasons they don’t like being on the backs of trucks.”
“Goats are extremely agile and very clever, and they really like the leaves on that tree. We think of them as big puppies.”
Farm Animal Rescue welcomes visitors for educational tours every second Sunday, and they also have sheep, pigs, cows and chickens.
