Australia’s No. 1 tennis player Ashleigh Barty is a Vegemite kid for life despite her Australian Open dream ending to Petra Kvitova last night in Melbourne.
The Bega Cheese General Manager of Consumer Products Adam McNamara, owners of the iconic Australian spread, said his company was thrilled to continue to support Barty through sponsorship which started in 2017.
“She has been a supporter (of Vegemite) as a kid and she always carries a tube of Vegemite around with her wherever she plays, and rest assured she will have a lifetime supply of Vegemite,’’ Mr McNamara told Ross Greenwood on Brisbane radio 4BC.

He said sponsoring Barty, a likeable young woman from working class Springfield near Ipswich, was also a way to celebrate Vegemite once again being Australian owned.

The company also has a sponsorship arrangement with the ballkids at the Australian Open, and also with the Barty Army who support Barty.
Despite her Australian Open loss in the quarterfinals, the Woodcrest State College past student and product of the West Brisbane Tennis Cente has had the best month of her career.

On Sunday Barty deflected the death stares of Russian Maria Sharapova en-route to beating the world No. 2 at the Australian Open.
Entering the Australian Open she beat the world No. 12 Elise Mertens, No. 9 Kiki Bertens and No. 1 Simona Halep at the Sydney International after gradually rising through the ranks across 2018.
