Wynnum Wolves FC devastated by damage caused by vandalism, graffiti

A Brisbane soccer club has been left devastated after vandals ruined new facilities worth more than $50,000.

The president of a Brisbane community soccer club has labelled vandals who ruined new facilities, which cost more than $50,000, as “disgusting human beings”.

Wynnum Wolves FC, based at Tingalpa’s Carmichael Park, have had their new dugouts covered in graffiti as well as the scoreboard’s electrical system damaged overnight with repairs expected to cost upwards of $10,000.

The incident has put a sour note on an otherwise impressive year for the Wolves, who made the FQPL semi-final, and delivered massive upgrades to their facilities.

President Rabieh Krayem said this was a bitter pill to swallow after the club had put so much effort into transforming their venue into one of the best around Brisbane.

“These facilities aren’t just used by us, their used by schools and other community clubs, but we’re just the ones who pay for the upkeep of the facilities,” he said.

“I have no words for the people who did this, other than they are disgusting human beings.

“Now we have to fork out more money for the repairs, which we have no idea how much that will cost at the moment.”

The vandalism of the new facilities comes just months after Wolves FC had thousands of dollars worth of property stolen.

Krayem said an incident like this had an impact on so many people at the club.

“Wynnum Wolves FC pours thousands of dollars into the upkeep and maintenance of its grounds and facilities each season, dollars that come directly from the mums and dads who pay registration fees for their children and help out with raffles, canteen duties and other fundraising events to support the club’s programs and facilities,” he said.

“It affects each and every one of our members when crimes such as this are committed.”

Krayem said any business which would like to help them with repairs or sponsorship, could email him on president@wolvesfc.com.au.
