A BRISBANE community soccer club has been left devastated after a thief ransacked their facility, stealing thousands of dollars worth of property.

Queensland Police are investigating following the incident at Wynnum Wolves FC’s base at Tingalpa’s Carmichael Park last Friday.

The thief is believed to have stolen some essential equipment from the club as well as more than $1000 worth of recycled cans members had collected to give the Wolves a much-needed financial boost as they return from almost three months off due to COVID-19.

Wolves FC president Rabieh Krayem said stealing from a community club was “scum”.

“For community clubs, this sort of stuff is worth a lot, every dollar is needed especially after battling through the past few months,” he said.

“You’d never think people would stoop so low to steal from a community clubs.

“The thing they need to know is that they’re basically stealing from kids.

“A few thousand dollars might not seem like much but it’s a few thousand dollars we need to find now.”

Krayem said members of the Wolves FC were going through their club to see if anything more was taken.

Wynnum Police senior sergeant Wayne Richter said a witness spotted a man climbing into the club’s compound around 4pm on Friday.

“This male person was seen to remove a recycling bin full of aluminium cans and push it to the fence where it was loaded onto a white utility and then driven away,” he said.

Snr Sgt Richter said the club manager later discovered that more property had been stolen.

“We understand that this facility hasn’t been utilised for some time and we’re reaching out to anyone that may have seen any person acting suspiciously in the area at this time,” he said.

“Any information please call Crimestoppers or the Wynnum Police station.”
