Police are searching for a brazen teen thief who left a family on Brisbane’s southside shocked after being caught red-handed with dashcam footage.
The video shows a woman allegedly stealing from a BMW X3 series at 12.51am on February 27 at Kneale St in Holland Park West.
Queensland Police have identified the woman as an 18-year-old from Mansfield.
The footage shows the female entering the unlocked car, which was parked in a car port, and using a piece of clothing to check for valuable items before allegedly taking off with sunglasses worth hundreds of dollars.
The incident has local residents concerned after what they called a “spree” of crime and suspicious activity in the area.
Peter Kim, the owner of the car and property, said he not only released the video to help catch the thief in the video but also in the hope of helping other residents in the area avoid what happened to him.
“Occasionally I forget to lock the car after my son jumps out the car, so it was my fault the car was unlocked,” he said.
“The interior dashcam comes on about 30 seconds after the door is opened.
“I am glad she didn’t realise the dashcam was there because if she had taken it then I wouldn’t have any evidence.
“I originally thought about letting it go as not much was stolen but it seems there has been a recent spree in the area so thought if others on the street had been targeted, it would be helpful.”

Holland Park Police senior sergeant, Kylie Doyle, said there was no need for concern from residents with these types of offences down almost 50 per cent compared to this time last year.
“If you look at stealing from a motor vehicle offences from January and February in 2020 compared to this year, it’s gone from 76 to 46, which is awesome,” she said.
“However when these things do happen we need people to report them to police quickly, rather than talking about it on community Facebook groups, so then we can address it.
“Residents also need to take the necessary precautions to avoid this happening to them as far as locking vehicles and making sure there’s no valuables left in the vehicles, people who do these kinds of things are opportunistic.”
Sgt Doyle said they were searching for the woman and also urged anyone who knew her to contact police.
