A bystander on their way to work who stopped to ask a meth addicted father if he was alright was punched in the face in a “bizarre” attack, a court heard.
Forty-one-year-old mechanic Scott Callum Wilson’s use of methamphetamine lead to a sad and violent nosedive which ultimately landed him in jail, Caboolture Magistrates Court heard.
The court heard that on October 23, in what Magistrate Robert Walker described as “somewhat bizarre” circumstances, Wilson assaulted a man at Kippa Ring.
The court heard it was about 5.30am when the victim noticed Wilson acting strangely in the street.
The court heard the bystander who was on their way to work was stopped and spoke to Wilson who threatened to kill him before punching the man in the face.
The behaviour continued that day at Bracalba where Wilson threatened to shoot someone.
The court heard the victim had approached Wilson on a property but then, following Wilson’s threats, drove a short distance away and called police.
Wilson climbed into his own car, followed them and used his car to block their exit.
“They thought you were waving a gun at them,” Magistrate Walker said.
The court heard Wilson’s car was damaged when the victims drove into it while trying to drive away.
“It’s true your vehicle was damaged in circumstances where the victim was trying to escape.”
In another “bizarre” event, Wilson stole a $235 nozzle from a vacuum at Caboolture Auto Wash on September 11.
The court heard Wilson — who had been in jail since October 23 after breaching parole for a previous stealing offence for which he was convicted in Redcliffe Magistrates Court — started using meth after finding himself homeless and in financial crisis around 2019.
“That would be the obvious explanation for what is otherwise, as I said before, bizarre behaviour,” the magistrate said.
The drug use — which made Wilson aggressive — revived a previous spate of offending, however the court heard he had plans to undertake courses to better his life.
Wilson was sentenced to three months jail, immediately suspended for 12 months, for the common assault and ordered to serve probation for the stealing and threatening violence offences. He was also ordered to pay $235 restitution to the car wash.
