A teenager has died and another man is fighting for his life in hospital after a horrific single-vehicle crash in Brisbane’s southside.
Police investigations indicated a grey Subaru Impreza was travelling north along Rochedale Rd near Grieve Rd when it left the road and struck a pole at 10.26am this morning.
Six Queensland Ambulance crews, including critical care and high acuity paramedics units, attended the scene, where one man was trapped but later freed from the vehicle.
The passenger, a 19-year-old Wynnum man, died at the scene.
The driver, a 33-year-old Wynnum West man, was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Grieve Rd is a long, winding semi-rural road dotted with houses on acreage and an Optus satellite facility, but no other major businesses.
Locals took to a community Facebook page to complain about a “dangerous’’ pothole that had been in the area for some time.
Several said there was a “nasty’’ bend in that section of the road.
Others said speed had been a common issue in the area for many years, although it was still not known if speed, wet weather, road surface conditions or other factors played a role in this morning’s crash.
Police appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant vision of the vehicle before the crash to contact them.
Investigations were continuing.
