A TEENAGE driver who told police they were going too slow after tailgating a marked car is one of the few people to be fined under the COVID-19 restrictions on Brisbane’s bayside.

The 19-year-old man was stopped by Wynnum Police on the Wynnum Esplanade on Monday and then argued with officers that they were driving too slow.

“When questioned as to why he was driving on the Esplanade he stated he was about to exercise,” Wynnum police senior sergeant Wayne Richter said.

The man was just one of three $1334 infringement notices issued by Wynnum Police since Good Friday with the other two issued to residents of Brisbane’s northside, who were also allegedly busted with drugs inside their vehicle after being stopped on Wynnum Rd at Tingalpa.

The driver of the car was a 27-year-old man from North Lakes, who was travelling with two others to an address known to police.

“Police have subsequently conducted a search of the vehicle and located a quantity of methylamphetamines,” Snr-Sgt Richter said.

A 24-year-old Dakabin woman was arrested and appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court after being charged with possession of a dangerous drug and was remanded in custody until the July 6.

Snr-Sgt Richter said Wynnum Police were actively patrolling public areas over the Easter break and was happy with the co-operation of the community and compliance with the coronavirus restrictions.

“The majority of people were abiding by the social distancing requirements and on the occasions where people were spoken to, they immediately modified they behaviour which was a very positive response,” he said.
