State Schools take over as top NAPLAN performers in Brisbane’s North revealed

New data has revealed who the top NAPLAN performers are across Brisbane’s north as state schools continue to lift their game.
The testing for schools around Australia includes reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy categories across every second grade from Year 3 to 9.
In the primary rankings, state schools are taking over after taking seven of the top 10 spots with Indooroopilly State School in first place with a total average score of 1050.8 across Year 3 and 5.
Ashgrove State School, Eagle Junction State School, Ironside State School, Newmarket State School, Wilston State School and Rainworth State School are all among the top primary schools after impressive results.
St Peters Lutheran College had an impressive year in both the primary and secondary results, taking second and fifth.
The Queensland Academy of Science Mathematics and Technology was by far the best performing secondary school in the region with a combined score of 1342.2 while Brisbane Girls Grammar School (BGGS) took second place with a score of 1256.
BGGS principal, Jacinda Euler, said the school’s results reflected a learning environment which inspired students to be independent, curious and adventurous, under the guidance and support of their expert teachers.
“We know that if the girls feel supported and connected, that is foundational to their academic success,” she said.
“NAPLAN results provide us with valuable information to guide teaching practice, but should never be viewed in isolation.
“The data certainly helps us to better understand the learning needs of our Year 7 and Year 9 students, both as a group and as individual students.
Ms Euler said while the school was proud of the results, they were cautious about placing too much importance on a single testing instrument to assess the education the school provides.
“We know that every school is operating in a different context and every cohort is a group of individuals, that will hopefully perform at their best, but differently,” she said.
