A young prospect putting up 50-point games, a Moreton Bay duo and more juniors letting their offensive game shine – meet the top scorers for Basketball Queensland’s under-14 SQJBC competition.

Although we all know scoring isn’t everything, we have decided to shine a light on some impressive performances from the southeast region’s junior representative competition currently being played.

And as we close in on the end of the regular season and start the lead-in to the state championships, there have been some memorable performances across all five boys under-14 divisions and four girls divisions.

Leading the way is Logan Thunder’s Trae Dombroski, who has dominated the boys division one competition for his team which sits in second place behind Ipswich on the ladder.

Having already recorded a 50-point game and a 45-point performance, Trae is the highest scorer across all divisions with a total of 367 points at an average of 30.6 points per game.

The versatile forward, who towers above most of his competition, has already represented Queensland on a tour to Melbourne, where he again stood out on the court.

His coach at Logan, Kevin McGrath, said it wasn’t just his offensive game which made him an impressive talent.

“Trae is a highly skilled big who can play the one position through to the five man,” he said. “This skill set makes him very hard to guard, add to that he is also a willing passer, his athleticism and finishing around the rim is elite and he has added a solid mid range game.

“He is a genuine rim protector who can impact the game on defense alone.”

Rounding out the top three is a duo from the Moreton Bay Fire with S. Richardson from the girls division three competition taking out second spot and N. Shepherd from the boys division four competition sitting in third.

Richardson has been dominant for her Moreton Bay team this season, scoring 236 points across her games, while Shepherd has also been on fire for the Fire with 220 points.

Gold Coast Waves boys division two standout B. Henderson sits in fourth place among the highest scorers in the under-14 competitions with 213 points and RedCity Lions’ youngster E. Greenaway has showcased his skills in the boys division five competition with 211 points to take his position in the top five.
