Schools on Brisbane’s southside say tuckshop will be back tomorrow with a few changes

With children returning to school across Queensland on Monday, school tuckshops will also be back in action. But there are huge changes to how they will operate in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. SEE ALL THE CHANGES.

TOMORROW in Queensland, for the first time in more than two months, all year levels will be returning to school as the gradual easing of COVID-19 restrictions continues.

For parents, this means a return to ritual – ironing uniforms, dropping off and picking up, packing lunches and, perhaps, providing lunch money. But what will tuckshops look like tomorrow?

EXPLAINED: How schools will change due to COVID-19

What parents learned from weeks of homeschooling

At Mount Gravatt State High School, access to their school tuckshop will be “staggered” to help adhere to social distancing.

“With school resuming and all students back, the canteen will be providing a full winter menu via Flexischools online ordering, which is both a contactless ordering and payment (system),” the school said in a statement.

“The canteen will also provide pre-packaged snacks and drinks, which can be purchased by card only.”

At Clairvaux MacKillop College at Upper Mount Gravatt, the tuckshop will be only accepting pre-orders.

“Students and parents/carers can order food and drinks online, telephoning through, or students can order at the tuckshop before school commences,” deputy principal Markus Ebeling said.

Entry to the tuckshop will also be staggered via year levels, with each year level having a different service point.

Teaching staff will be rostered on during breaks to maintain social distancing.

“Each break, teaching staff are rostered at the Tuckshop, and in the current climate, will also assist with social distancing measures, aided by social distancing markers on the ground,” Mr Ebeling said.

He said COVID-19 has hastened the school’s move to non-cash payments, which was introduced last year.

Other Brisbane southside schools took to social media to preview tomorrow’s arrangements for families:
