Giant Mexican food chain Guzman y Gomez has revealed plans for a new 24-hour restaurant in Brisbane’s southern suburbs with two buildings along a bustling road to be demolished to make way for the development.

Guzman y Gomez (GYG) has lodged an application with Brisbane City Council to develop a one-storey outlet, with dual drive-thru lanes, at 5, 7 and 9 Shakespeare Street, Coorparoo.

The new GYG would cover 200 sqm of gross floor area and an integrated alfresco dining area.

The restaurant is proposed to operate 24-hours, seven days a week and will provide 12 parking spaces.

An existing commercial building over 5 Shakespeare Street will be partially demolished and the existing building over 7 and 9 Shakespeare Street will be removed.

A new restaurant at Coorparoo would add to the existing portfolio of more than 60 GYG locations across Queensland.

“The establishment of the food and drink outlet will activate this under-utilised site by creating a development outcome which encourages a level of economic and social activity which will serve a mix of visitors, workers and residents at different times of the day and week,” the application reads.

“With a focus on delivering an immersive dining experience tailored to diverse customer preferences, GYG has captured a strong market demand, particularly in dynamic inner-city locations like Coorparoo, signalling continued growth in the food and hospitality sector.

“The demand for GYG’s offerings remains robust, particularly in inner-city locales such as Coorparoo, underscoring sustained growth within the food and hospitality sector.

“The upcoming completion of the new Coorparoo store represents an exciting phase of development for GYG, aligning with its mission to not only enhance the local dining landscape but also to strengthen community engagement beyond conventional restaurant boundaries.”
