A brave young girl has been run over on Brisbane’s bayside after trying to stop an alleged teen thief from taking off with the family car.
The incident happened on March 10 after police received reports a car was stolen from an address in the bayside suburb of Wakerley around 2pm, where it was last seen driving off towards the Gumdale Tavern.
Wynnum Police senior sergeant Wayne Richter said initial investigations revealed the vehicle was stolen after unknown persons had gained entry into the house through a closed but unlocked front door and had found the car keys inside.
Sgt Richter said the victim’s 13-year-old daughter had seen the vehicle when it returned to the same cul-de-sac a short time later and thinking it was her brother, the girl gestured to the car but she soon realised it wasn’t him.
He also said the car has then driven up beside her and she banged on the roof demanding the offenders get out of the vehicle.
The vehicle has then run over the girl’s foot, where she fortunately only suffered minor injuries.
