Ormiston driver catches surprising public nuisance on dashcam

A Redland resident who took the wrong route home has been left badly shaken after a shirtless man punched in his windscreen, causing thousands of dollars damage.

The man, who did not want to be named, was driving on Delancey St in Ormiston at 7.05pm last night, April 10, when he slowed down to allow a couple to cross the road.

The couple was walking in the middle of the poorly-lit road and after a few seconds the man suddenly turned around and approached the car.

He jumped onto the bonnet, yelling, before smashing the windscreen with his fist. The dashcam was also damaged.

The driver said he was still in shock.

“I am still very shaky and shocked with the amount of violence that came towards me,” he said.

“I was on my way home from work and those two people just happened to be on the middle of the road.

I didn’t know the man and never seen them in my life. I was the wrong place at the wrong time.’’

He expected repairs to run into several thousand dollars.

“The damage to the car was mostly on the windscreen but the bonnet is also damaged,” he said.

The driver said the man did not assault him after he drove off.

“When I got home I had lots of little cuts in my hands and fingers because the glass was shedding from inside while I was driving,” he said.

Police said they are investigating the incident.
