OP results: Southeast Brisbane top OP schools ranked — full list

The states best performing OP schools have been revealed, with schools in Brisbane’s southeast taking out top spots. Here’s what makes these schools so amazing.

ANGLICAN Church Grammar School is the best performing school in Brisbane’s southeast based on OP scores.

Churchie, which is one of the city’s leading independent boys’ school, was ranked seventh out of 378 schools because 43.5 per cent of its 193 Year 12 students going for an OP achieved between a one and five.

The statistics have been released by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority as part of its Year 12 Outcomes 2018 report.

Other top performing southeast schools include Moreton Bay Boys’ College at Manly West, which came 11th place with 41.38 per cent of its Year 12 students receiving an OP 1-5 in 2018.

Not far behind was Cannon Hill Anglican College which was ranked 12th.

Mansfield State High School had the highest amount of students going for an OP on the southside.

Of the 327 Year 12 students, 81 of them received an OP 1-5, equating to 24.77 per cent.

THE SCHOOL WHERE HALF STUDENTS GOT OP 1-5

While the majority of the top performers in Brisbane’s southeast were private schools, Brisbane School of Distance Education in Coorparoo led the way of the state-funded schools with 29.07 per cent of students scoring an OP 1-5.

Mansfield State High School and Mt Gravatt State High School followed closely with

24.77 per cent and 23.20 per cent, respectively.

East Brisbane’s Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie) headmaster Dr Alan Campbell congratulated the class of 2018 for attaining excellent academic results, including 20 OP 1s, 20 OP 2s and 18 OP 3s.

Other highlights include 21 per cent of students achieved OP 1-2 and 30 per cent of students achieving OP 1-3 which are the school’s highest-ever results.

“(It’s) a wonderful tribute to the boys’ dedication, high quality teaching and support, 70.8% of the cohort received an A or B in the Queensland Core Skills Test (QCS),” headmaster Dr Alan Campbell said.

BRISBANE’S TOP PRIMARY SCHOOLS REVEALED

Manly West’s Moreton Bay Boys’ College executive principal James Sloman said he was proud his school had soared above state average with “outstanding OP results”.

“In what has been an exceptional year on many levels, both Moreton Bay Boys’ College (MBBC) and Moreton Bay College (MBC) have recorded outstanding OP results, with MBBC recording its best ever results,” he said.

Mansfield State High School principal Karen Tanks said: “Once again, Mansfield did exceptionally well. We are all very proud of our results.”

Calamvale Community College executive principal Lisa Starmer defines her students as “curious, creative and clever” and she said this was proof with the 2018 seniors’ results.

“Across multiple pathways, leading to all walks of life, Calamvale students have met and exceeded expectations,” Ms Starmer said.

“Three of our students achieved OP1 this year and 60% of the students who studied the OP course, achieved OP1-10, guaranteeing them access to any of the universities in Brisbane.

“Thirty-four students completed a Diploma of Business and are able to access a rank-equivalent OP 9 in targeted courses and 100 per cent of students graduated with a Queensland Certificate of Education.”

 Redeemer Lutheran College student, Olivia Wormwell, who graduated with an OP1 in 2018, is among the top 0.6% Year 12 graduates in Queensland. She was one of only 34 students across the state to be awarded a QCE Achievement Award, putting her ahead of more than 50,000 peers.

Brisbane Christian College head of secondary Nathan Cox said 100 per cent of the school’s graduates who applied through QTAC, received offers of tertiary study as well as having 17.2 per cent of all eligible students achieving an OP 1 or 2.

“This is a testament to the hard work and determination of our graduates, but also to their families and the dedicated team of teachers and support staff at Brisbane Christian College who have continued to holistically encourage every Year 12 graduate on their journey to be who they are created to be,” Mr Cox said.

“The Class of 2018 have led across the breadth of our College community in; spiritual formation, the arts, academics, apprenticeships and on the sporting field and have left a legacy for future cohorts to aspire to and build upon.”

Redeemer Lutheran College principal Tanya Crooks said: “While the majority of our students proceed directly to university, alternative pathways are also supported through TAFE with students and traineeships offered in the senior years.

Mount Gravatt State High School topped its own history with four graduating Year 12 students achieving the top result of OP 1, Aidan Demmers, Rebecca Gong, Jayden Webster, Lauren Ockendon.

“Mount Gravatt High School Class of 2018 students should be congratulated on their outstanding achievements, the best ever OP result at Mount Gravatt High” Principal Ross Robertson said.

He said the academic highlights included 90 per cent of students achieving an OP 1-15,

61 per cent of students achieving an OP 1-10 and 33 students achieving and OP 1-5.

Deputy principal Mr Darren Beebe said: “An outstanding result for an outstanding group of young people.

“On top of this, students at Mount Gravatt High completed diploma courses, Certificate II, III and IV courses and school based apprenticeships with some students even completing university subjects.”
