Pamela Tatt named Qld Kindest in search for Australia’s most generous person

A Logan woman who founded a charity that has knitted, sewed, and crocheted nearly one million items for those in need has been named the state winner in the search for Australia’s kindest person.

National women’s apparel retailer Black Pepper went on a countrywide search to find Australia’s kindest people, share their stories, and inspire others to be a little kinder.

After an extensive search, Black Pepper customers selected Eagleby woman Pamela Tatt as the Queensland finalist to join hundreds of national entries to be in the running to be crowned as Australia’s kindest person.

Ms Tatt founded Knit 4 Charities 20 years ago, a group dedicated to knitting, crocheting, and sewing items for people and animals in need across Australia.

Under her leadership, the group has grown to more than 1000 members who have collectively donated nearly 1 million handmade items to those in need, including premmie babies, new mums, aged care residents, and the homeless.

Black Pepper director apparel Rachel Digby said the World Kindness Day campaign had unearthed some incredible unsung community heroes.

“This is the third year that we have run our search for Australia’s kindest person and I am once again completely overwhelmed by the incredibly kind people within our communities,” Ms Digby said.

“Pamela is such a worthy Queensland winner and exemplifies the qualities we were looking for in our search.

“Her selflessness and unwavering commitment to building a community that supports those in need is inspiring and the epitome of kindness.”

Black Pepper, which has stores all over Australia, will announce and crown Australia’s kindest person at a special event in Melbourne ahead of World Kindness Day on November 13.

The winner will receive $5000 for the charity of their choice with state winners all receiving $500 Black Pepper vouchers.

The national winner will be selected by a panel of judges, including previous winners, Victorian woman Joy Sparks, a retired teacher from Melbourne who spends her time cooking and caring for the homeless, and South Australian Rose Darling, who founded Community Help and Togetherness CHATS, a volunteer-run organisation providing meals, groceries, clothing, and essential household items to community members in need.

Ms Tatt will travel to Melbourne for the award ceremony where the national winner will be announced and crowned as Australia’s kindest person ahead of World Kindness Day on November 13 and will win $5,000 for the charity of their choice.
