A woman whose courtroom antics were so disruptive she was remanded to police custody stated, “I am not under arrest” as she was ordered into the dock.
Nayjuok Gatwech Tut, 28, of Woolloongabba had her matter cut short when her wild accusations and manner were deemed so disrespectful Magistrate Zachary Sarra let the defendant settle down in police custody.
Appearing at Wynnum Magistrates Court on Monday, Ms Tut faced three counts of committing a public nuisance, and a count of wilful damage.
The court heard Ms Tut had been temporarily banned from the Wynnum CBD while on bail for multiple alleged offences of public nuisance on March 4.
Police will allege it followed an earlier offence of public nuisance and wilful damage in Karina on February 8.
But it was her series of wild statements and refusal to leave the court lest her matter be resolved on the spot that saw her temporarily remanded.
Ms Tut first demanded that her matter be dropped summarily after stating she would plead not guilty to the charges.
Ms Tut told the court she had sought legal advice and was told the charges were without substance.
She then demanded that an immediate trial into the matter be held, despite Mr Sarra explaining it would first have to progress to a hearing and that she was holding up the court’s proceedings.
The court was disrupted when the defendant made an assortment of extraordinary statements that included her saying, “Come on people, stop tricking me. I love my freedom … I don’t want to be falsely prosecuted because I’m hated. I’m a good person. These charges should be dismissed today. If this mention is not done today, I will not return (to court) that’s for sure ... Even the (defence) lawyer here today was misleading me on purpose ... The police are the pimps.”
As she was escorted to the dock the defendant said, “That’s okay, that’s recorded, too … I am not under arrest.”
Upon her return to court from remand Ms Tut was advised by Mr Sarra police would call four witnesses should the matter progress to trial for the “serious charges”.
The defendant is next scheduled to appear at court on April 26.
