The owner of a shopping centre in an up-and-coming suburb in Brisbane’s outer-south has successfully applied to ditch a planned service station on the site in favour of a fast-food favourite.
Rochedale Village Shopping Centre, owned by Coles Group, had previously received approval to build a Hungry Jack’s restaurant at the southwest corner of the site, fronting Miles Platting Rd.
Under this previous approval, the tenancy to the east of the Hungry Jack’s restaurant was to be a service station, but under plans approved last week by Brisbane City Council, a drive-through Guzman y Gomez restaurant will instead take its place.
The two fast-food titans join the existing McDonald’s in the southeast corner of the Rochedale Village site.
“The removal of the service station use will not involve additional known impacts, and is considered to likely reduce traffic generation to the site,” said planners Urbis in a report submitted to council.
“(It) will... also remove impacts associated with the (previous) use such as contamination issues, and amenity impacts related to the hours of operation and odour.
“The changes provide an improved building design and is more visually appealing than the approved service station. The removal of the existing fuel bowsers and the landscaping treatment approved along Miles Platting Rd will be maintained.”
Vehicles will continue to enter Rochedale Village via Gardner Rd.
Pedestrians can already access the site from Miles Platting Rd.
Earthworks are already well under way for both takeaway restaurants.
The Southern Star understands the Hungry Jack’s is due for completion by July, with the Guzman y Gomez due in late-2021, depending on council’s response to last week’s DA.
Coles Group were contacted for comment.
