Tributes are flowing for a young footballer from Brisbane’s south who was killed in a car crash at the weekend.

TRIBUTES are flowing for a young footballer from Brisbane’s south killed in a car crash at the weekend.

Mt Gravatt Vultures player Jared Hayne, 21, died after a small truck towing a caravan and his sedan collided head-on on the Bruce Highway near Miriam Vale, in the Gladstone region, on Saturday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

The occupants of the other vehicle, a man and a woman in their 60s, received minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

Mr Hayne, who grew up in Gladstone and played with the Gladstone Mudcrabs (since renamed the Suns), was a well- respected member of the football community.

He moved to Brisbane to play for the Mt Gravatt Vultures AFC and quickly became a part of the family.

The Mt Gravatt Vultures AFC paid tribute to Mr Hayne and expressed “great sadness” about the death of seniors player.

“Our thoughts are with the families, friends, playing group, supporters and coaches at this sad time,” the Facebook post read.

“We will pass on more details of arrangements in due course. Rest in Peace Jared, taken way too young!”

The club also wrote: “We appreciate the family of Jared allowing us to share this news into the broader community and will continue to work with them to suitably remember Jared in 2019 season and beyond.”

Many of Mr Hayne’s family and friends have taken to Facebook to express their grief about losing Jared, who listed boilermaker as his occupation on Facebook.

“Heart is honestly broken, actually still lost for words,” Tye Niha said.

“Every single day I will cherish our memories — until we meet again homie.”

“This cannot be true my brother boy Jared,” Alec Kruger said.

“A genuine tear came to my eye when I found out. Rest in peace my brother.”

“Thoughts and strength are with you all at the Vultures and the family of Jared,” Joey Daye added.

“Sending our sincere condolences from the Wilson Grange Football Club and the footy community.”

William John wrote: “Goodnight #58. The brilliant Hayne Vulture games were still ahead of you in season 2019. I have no more words, I’m shattered.”

“RIP you bloody legend, you’re in a better place now. Won’t be the same without you around.....love you man,” Nathan Morgan added.

Vikki Marie Nganeko wrote: “Jared, you where alway welcome in our home anytime night or day. We have the best memories of you and can’t believe your gone. RIP.”

“Words cannot describe the feeling I had when I heard the news this morning,” Sue Olsen added.

“Heartbreak and profound sadness for my big buddy. Jared you are so loved and desperately missed. I will miss your laughter and our chats. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hayne and Stones families at this terrible time. Love Ed and Suze.”

Some of his Vultures teammates also shared their feelings online.

“Rest in peace brother, I’m gonna miss ya,” Daniel Morgan said.

“I know you will be the first one to back me up on the footy field still though love ya.”

Suns president Joe Walsh expressed his condolences on the club’s Facebook page.

“I had the privilege of coaching Jared as well as playing senior footy with him too,” Mr Walsh said.

“A lad with exceptional talent and I certainly had a soft spot for him.

“Jared won many awards throughout his years at the club and made many mates along the way. He will certainly be missed by many at the club. “Another life taken way too young.”

Mr Hayne was also a former junior representative player for the AFL Capricornia side.

“Rest in peace young man. Our thoughts are with your families and friends,” the club said on its Facebook page.

Police are still investigating the crash.
