Gladstone Bruce Highway crash

A MAN in his 20s has died and a section of the Bruce Highway was closed for eight hours after a horror crash between Bundaberg and Gladstone on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a collision between a truck and a car in the southbound lanes of the highway just after 11am at Miriam Vale.

A man, the occupant of the car, was declared dead on the scene, while the two occupants of a truck towing a caravan received minor injuries. No one else was hurt in the crash.

Traffic from the crash backed up over 5km as a result of the smash. The road finally reopened about 7pm.

Earlier this year, the Department of Main Roads and Transport labelled the Bruce Highway between the North Coast and Wide Bay as Queensland’s riskiest road.

It comes as traffic delays continue in the state’s southeast for a fourth day in a row.

The same stretches of the Bruce Highway and Pacific Motorway were again seeing congestion by mid-morning, including northbound on the Bruce Highway from North Lakes to Caboolture and southbound on the Pacific Motorway from Springwood to Helensvale.

Also on the Gold Coast, southbound traffic was heavy from around Robina through to Tugun.

Delays were the result of lane closures due to highway upgrades.

The delays in the southeast lasted well into the afternoon.
