Meet the hospitality gurus behind a new French eatery on Brisbane’s bayside, which has moved into the former home of one of Australia’s biggest cafe franchises.

Capalaba resident Tim Marco and his partner, Chloe today (November 13) opened Banette Bayside French Bakery and Cafe at 70 Bay Tce in the Wynnum’s CBD.

It comes less than three months after the controversial closure of Coffee Club Wynnum at the site.

The couple, who have more than a decade’s experience in the hospitality industry.

Their children Thorin and Zelda were on hand to taste test the offerings on day one of trading.

Banette’s Wynnum location is the company’s third outlet in Brisbane and joins others at West End and Rosalie, run by founder Thierry Devisy.

Mr Marco, who lived in France before moving to Australia in 2010, said the idea for the new venue came about when his good friend and Banette creator expressed a desire to see the brand flourish.

“I was delighted to be able to mix my hospitality experience with the French culture and love of food,” he said.

“We’re not a franchise, we are a small family business and want to provide the best and most authentic French treats around.”

Banette’s features include breads, croissants, cruffins, kouign amanns, croque monsieurs, eclairs, macarons and gluten-free flans.

Mr Marco said the location, in Wynnum Central, was perfect for their new store.

“We were always and exclusively looking around the Bayside for our location as we love the strong community feeling you get as soon as you set foot in the area. Everybody is absolutely lovely to interact with,” Mr Marco said.

“We opened the bakery today but a more traditional cafe menu is on the cards for the near future.”

Mr Marco’s experience in the hospitality industry includes several roles such as chef and an operations manager, while his partner has been a barista for more than 10 years.

Banette Bayside is open from 6.30am daily and adds to the international flavour in Wynnum after the opening of Turkish cafe, Pera Palace Ottoman, earlier this year.
