A horse transport truck that is now a cafe is setting the tone for what’s to come at a new development site along Wynnum Rd.
Owner Bikash Pandey has been given the green light from Brisbane City Council to develop the site from an old service station at the corner of Glenora St and Wynnum Rd into four new retail tenancies including a drive-through cafe.
“Locals, they hated the site (as it is),” he said.
“You just need a vision.
“When it’s finished it will be one of the most beautiful places on Wynnum Rd.”
Mr Pandey, who also owns popular community hub Carport Cafe at Cannon Hill, said once finished the businesses at the new site would likely create 20-30 jobs.
He said works would likely start on the site within 12 months, however he wanted to establish a business on the site sooner.
“I had to do something creative,” he said.
“COVID gave me the idea: Drive-through.”
The hospitality veteran of 25 years said the drive-through horse truck-come-cafe called The Coffee Bus was a good way to settle into Wynnum community and had been a hit with locals after just one week.
“We’re trying to get to know the people in Wynnum and what they want,” he said.
“We’ve been breaking records every day.”
