Raw and Peace owner Ames Starr will take her beloved raw, sugar and gluten-free vegan menu that has graced restaurant and home tables across to the brand’s very first vegan cafe and deli.
The delicious and healthy cakes and snacks usually snapped up at the Northey St Organic Farmers Market in Windsor every Sunday or by wholesale purchasers will now be on offer to customers daily at the new premises.
Ms Starr collected the keys to her new venue, on Baynes St Margate, Tuesday and said she hopes to be open her dedicated legion of customers by the end of August.
The store — which Ms Starr says will be the city’s first vegan deli — will be located right next door to fellow wholefood retailer Soul Harvest Wholefoods — which has been stocking Ms Starr’s produce.
Ms Starr said the exciting new prospect was thanks to the support of her team and those at Soul Harvest.
“It’s the people really,” she said.
“If feel so blessed to be able to call this my job.”
The store will stock a range of vegan deli produce as well as Ms Starr’s famed vegan, sugar-free, gluten-free and organic cakes, raw vegan pizzas, vegan cheeses and other savoury delights.
The self-taught raw food guru, who shares her knowledge with Michelin Star chefs, developed her skills by accident while waitressing at a whole foods cafe in the Blue Mountains years ago.
“The cook walked out,” she said.
Ms Starr chipped in the kitchen to cover the staffing loss but her employer quickly realised she had a talent — and so the kitchen was where she stayed.
