The Gold Coast Waves girls team are out to dominate if day one is anything to go by.

Following a 76-point victory over the Logan Thunder Gold in the morning, the undefeated Waves backed it up with an 80-point demolition of the Gladstone Power on their home court to finish the opening day of the tournament.

Jess Petrie was again a star for the Gold Coast with 32 points while Jade Peacock scored 24 and Jordan Billing, Skye Mason and Amelia Andrews all reached double figures.

The two convincing victories on day one have sent a clear message to Gold Coast’s opponents ahead of the business end of the tournament.

Erin Harvey was impressive for Gladstone with 15 points.

REPLAY: U18 GIRLS DIVISION 2: GOLD COAST BREAKERS DEF SUNSHINE COAST RIP 80-53

The home side Gold Coast Breakers have started their tournament in perfect fashion despite an impressive performance from the Sunshine Coast’s William Jones.

Jones recorded 23 points for the Rip but it wasn’t enough as the Breakers proved too much with their balanced attack causing their opponents issues on the defensive end.

Tristyn Ambrose-Pearce led the way for the Gold Coast with 17 points as they ran away with a 27-point victory.

Brandon Del Rosario, Mehki O’Riley and Nevarda Higgins all had 12 for the Breakers while Jordan Dean had 11 for the Rip.

U18 BOYS PREMIER LEAGUE: GC WAVES def SC PHOENIX 82-70

The home team Gold Coast Waves survived an almighty scare from the Sunshine Coast Phoenix to tip-off their State Championships campaign with a hard fought victory.

Gold Coast, who are one of the favourites to contend for the title, struggled for most of the game against a gritty Phoenix side looking to start the tournament with an upset.

However, the Waves managed to pull away in the fourth quarter with their balanced attack proving too much for the Sunshine Coast.

Gold Coast had five players score in double figures led by Mathayus Mata’Afa with 16 points followed by Amarco Doyle with 15 while Jalen Blanchard, Elijah Kamu and Joshua Wolff all scored 14 points.

Jackson Tumbridge led the way for the Phoenix with 17 points while Brandon Albrecht and Aiden Cox both had 12.

U18 GIRLS PREMIER LEAGUE: GC WAVES DEF LOGAN THUNDER GOLD 108-32

The red-hot favourites to win the girls championship showed why they are exactly that after a dominant 76-point win over the Logan Thunder Gold to start their tournament this morning.

Gold Coast, who have won every state title in this age group and were undefeated after the first half of the SQJBC season, came out firing early and never let up against the Thunder’s second team.

Lilly Rotunno again proved why she is one of the best players in the country with 31 points while Jessica Petrie also impressed with 16.

Three other players also scored in double figures for the Waves while Kalia Taito top scored for the Thunder with nine points.
