A man charged with grievous bodily harm for the horrific alleged bashing of a bayside footy dad, will “likely” contest the matter while one of his co-accused has indicated he will plead guilty to the same charge, a court has heard.

Slacks Creek brothers-in-law Solomona Solomona, 27, and Barry Vailoa Sepulona, 24, did not appear at Wynnum Magistrates Court on Monday.

Solomona faces a further charge of assault occasioning bodily harm while in company and Sepulona a second charge of breach of bail.

The men were charged for the alleged bashing of footy dad Joshua Jones at an under-13 game on May 9 last year at Wynnum’s Kitchener Park.

The court previously heard the alleged victim suffered facial injuries so severe it left his face “floating” with a number of broken and fractured bones.

Defence solicitor Tam Elabbasi represented both defendants.

Mr Elabbasi said negotiations for Solomona’s matter were unsuccessful and would “likely” progress to trial.

A request to adjourn the matter for two months was met with opposition from the prosecution who noted the matter had been ongoing for a significant period.

Mr Elabbasi explained some delays were caused while waiting on medical material.

Sepulona has indicated that he would plead guilty but experienced “funding issues” for his matter, the court was told.

Both defendants had their matters adjourned to May 9.

Griffith Lilomaiava, 19, of Logan Central and Talapuse Tuialii, 37, of Crestmead also face charges of assault occasioning bodily harm while in company and grievous bodily harm for the matter.
