The fourth and final man accused of bashing 35-year-old footy dad Joshua Jones at an under-13 game at Wynnum last month has been granted bail after making an application in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Four men, Crestmead brothers Griffith Lilomaiava, 19, and Talapuse Tuialii, 36, and Slacks Creek brothers-in-law Solomona Solomona, 26, and Barry Vaiola Sepulona, 24, were arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm following the alleged assault on May 9 at Kitchener Park.
Mr Jones suffered a broken jaw, nose and orbital fractures, described by his father Ricki outside Cleveland Magistrates Court previously as akin to having his “face floating around”.
Wynnum Magistrate Zac Sarra granted Mr Lilomaiava and Mr Solomona bail on May 13 but denied the other two.
Mr Tuialii’s bail was denied in part because of a previous conviction in 2009 for assault occasioning bodily harm.
Mr Sepulona was denied bail due to his alleged attempts to delete social media messages and change his appearance in order to evade capture.
Mr Tuialii’s Supreme Court bail application was granted on May 27.
He was released with 11 conditions, including that he not enter or attend any organised sporting events and he must not contact his alleged victim Mr Jones or any other witnesses.
He will also have to abide by a 9.30pm to 5am curfew and report to police every Monday and Friday.
As part of the bail conditions, Mr Tuialii will also be required to contact his GP to obtain a mental health plan to seek counselling for anger management.
Tuialii was also required to surrender his passport and is not allowed to enter an international airport or leave the state of Queensland.
Today, Mr Sepulona, the last of the four still remanded in pre-sentence custody, was also granted bail. which was not opposed by the Crown.
The application was granted on similar conditions as Mr Tuialii’s.
The four will appear in Wynnum Magistrates Court on Monday, July 12, for a committal review.
