Gold Coast couple to relaunch revamped The Pizza Shop in Morningside
They met at a pizzeria, now this Queensland couple has launched their own Italian gourmet pizza restaurant in Brisbane.

A Queensland couple’s dream has finally come true as they relaunched a revamped gourmet pizza restaurant in Brisbane’s southeast last night.
Francesco and Jelena Buonomo from the Gold Coast opened the doors on The Pizza Garden in Morningside tonight after taking over the business from the previous owners, who closed the venue more than a month ago to relocate to Adelaide.
The eatery, where the decor as well as the menu has been given a facelift, will take inspiration from Mr Buonomo’s parents and grandparents who ran their own businesses in the food industry in Italy.
“We are actually living on the Gold Coast, we are originally from Brisbane and met in Brisbane in a pizzeria where Francesco previously worked,” Mrs Buonomo said.
“Francesco has been working in hospitality for over 15 years and as a pizza chef for more than 10 years.
“Since I have met him it has been his dream to open his own pizza restaurant, so that he can put his skills and knowledge towards a business of his own.
“It’s also in his blood to do this. Francesco is passionate about bringing an authentic Italian experience to his food, utilising ingredients of the highest quality.”
Mrs Buonomo said they happened to stumble upon The Pizza Garden after moving south for work.
“It was just the right size for what we have had in mind for our business,” she said.
“We felt that Morningside was a great location for our business as it is so well connected with the CBD as well as lots of suburban areas, with a really friendly ambience about it.
“We hope to eventually transfer back to living in Brisbane, with our little-one year-old Sebastian.
“Our vision for The Pizza Garden is that it will become a relaxing place for families and friends that live in the area to come and enjoy some delicious Italian food along with some drinks.
