The El Camino chain is set to open its 10th Tex-Mex cantina, and its fifth in Brisbane, in one of the city’s hottest precincts – but this one won’t be like any of the others.

Margaritas and live music from some of Australia’s top DJs are set to provide a popular Brisbane entertainment precinct with a huge boost as a growing food chain prepares to launch a new location with a unique twist.

Tex Mex restaurant chain El Camino Cantina will open the doors on its new two-storey, 510-seat South Bank venue on November 20.

But the multimillion-dollar development from the Rockpool Dining Group, which replaces the old Munich Brauhaus and will bring in 50 jobs, is unlike any of the chain’s nine others around the country, including four in Queensland.

The South Bank location will also include the inaugural Hotel Diablo – a 250-seat area which has a dedicated bar and is split across two interlinked rooms suitable for private functions.

Hotel Diablo will boast a cool club vibe every Friday and Saturday from 9pm, with DJs playing until at least midnight and a dancefloor available when social restrictions ease further as well as later DJ performances also likely to kick in at this time.

Top Australian DJ duo Mashd N Kutcher will launch the upper-floor area on November 27.

El Camino Cantina food and beverage Director Molly Haranis said there would be no shortage of top music across the two-storey destination.

“We are thrilled to be launching our first two-storey El Camino Cantina and Hotel Diablo, where we will spotlight top DJs every week and have the biggest line-up of our cult margaritas in Queensland,” she said.

“The venue boasts a number of great zones, spaces and rooms that are ideal for group functions this festive season. With a large alfresco area and upper level entertainment it’s the perfect party spot this summer.”

Rockpool Dining Group CEO Thomas Pash said the launch of El Camino Cantina at South Bank in Brisbane was absolutely driven by the success of their other venues, particularly those in Queensland.

“We believe this to be a prime time to launch a new restaurant. El Camino Cantina is a growth brand for the business and has come out of the COVID-19 pandemic even stronger,” he said.

“We opened El Camino Cantina at Robina in July – a time when many restaurants hadn’t reopened after the initial shutdown – and it is proving to be big hit on the Gold Coast.

“This success underscores our confidence in El Camino Cantina continuing to be a growth brand for the business.”
