A young Brisbane roofer has fronted court for a fourth time for possessing dangerous drugs, this time found with a commercial quantity of MDMA as he exited a CBD hotel.
Mansfield man Dylan Jake Kane, 24, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Thursday to possessing 14.6g of MDMA contained within 55g of substance.
A commercial quantity is defined under legislation as being more than 2g.
The court heard Kane was searched by police upon exiting a hotel in Brisbane CBD on May 22 last year where they discovered the drugs contained in two clipseal bags.
It was accepted by Kane’s defence the drugs were for a mixed commercial-personal purpose.
It was the fourth time Kane found himself before a court for drug possession, although the first time he appeared in the state’s highest court.
Justice Helen Bowskill told the court the defendant he had a “lot good positive things in your favour (which is a) reason for optimism”.
They included his qualifications as a roofer, his continued employment in the industry, and a stable relationship.
The court heard Kane wished to one day own a business.
“If you don’t divorce yourself from involvement in illegal drugs (that) won’t happen,” Justice Bowskill said.
He was sentenced to two years and six months’ imprisonment, with immediate release on parole.
