Diver Maddison Keeney will glance toward the Olympic Games with renewed confidence after her bronze medal winning effort at last year’s world championships.
Although Keeney has accumulated an impressive array of Olympic, world and Commonwealth Games medals since 2014, all but one– a silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games – were in synchronised events, not individual competition in Olympic events.

That is why her individual bronze medal in the 3m at the world championships last year was extra special.
“I now know I can do it,’’ the Holland Park West resident said. “I am really pleased with the way I dived.
“Being able to do that at the highest level was really important for me and gave me some confidence.
“I have made a lot of positive changes since Addy (head coach Adrian Hinchliffe) came along (three years ago).
“Getting into the top three is a pretty big moment for me because it felt like all my efforts and positive changes had come to fruition.’’
Keeney’s performance booked the Australian team a place in the 3m competition for Tokyo.
Now all Keeney has to do is perform at the Olympic diving trials in Sydney during June to ensure she is the one occupying the place she created with her dive at the worlds.
Her finest efforts include winning bronze in 3m synchronised springboard at the 2016 Olympics and gold in 1m springboard at 2017 world titles (non Olympic event).
