More than 140 beds, 150 jobs and a total cost of more than $40 million – this new aged care residential development is a giant addition for a quiet suburb in Brisbane’s southeast.
And the people behind the project at Camp Hill believe it will be the perfect compliment to the suburb as construction starts to take shape.
The project at 754 Old Cleveland Rd will be CPSM Care’s fifth home in the region with the southeast Queensland business already having locations at Holland Park, Kippa Ring, Aspley and Coomera.
Featuring 141 beds, CPSM Care business manager Shane Winterton said the new facility would feel like a real home for its residents.
“The rooms will be like a home with a home,” he said.
“Instead of normal rooms and a large dining room to seat everyone for dinner, this facility will feature good modern homes with different wings and lounges as well as balconies and outdoor spaces for every room.
“Despite our nearest facility being very close in Holland Park, we believe there’s a definite need in the community and that area for aged care like this where we’ll have good homes and service.”
The original application, which was submitted by Allity Aged Care in 2017 for a 151-bed facility and later approved by the Brisbane City Council, received some negative feedback from local residents who believed the development may impact on traffic as well as the character of Camp Hill.
But Allity withdrew their proposal in 2019 before CPSM Care then bought the land and made some modifications following submissions from the community.
The number of beds was reduced by 10 and CPSM Care made the whole first level underground parking, allowing space for 65 car spaces.
Mr Winterton also said a lot of work went into the architectural aspect of the building so it would fit in with the character of Camp Hill.
“We wanted a really nice and modern look to fit in with the surrounding area,” he said.
“I think also now with so many carparks that are off the street, as well as a bus line being outside, there’ll be little interference with traffic in the area.
“Since we made the modifications to the project, we’ve mostly had good feedback from the community and we’ve already had a fair few people express interest in the homes.”
Mr Winterton said they were aiming for the project to be complete in May or June next year.
