WITH three wins on the trot the Wynnum Manly Seagulls are now a team full of confidence.
They have bounced back from a six-game losing streak at the start of the season to be only two wins behind the Intrust Super Cup top six and have another challenge against the Tweed Heads Seagulls this Sunday.
Following a dominant 62-16 win over the Mackay Cutters at home at the weekend, coach Jon Buchanan said the biggest difference for his side was confidence.
“It’s amazing what a couple of wins can do,” he said.
“We’re a completely different team at the moment compared to the start of the season and everyone is just doing their job and playing their role, which has been the main reason our performances have lifted.
“The most pleasing thing from the Mackay game was that we took our chances, we executed really well, which we weren’t doing at the start of the year.
“We don’t have many injuries at the moment either at the moment, that’s huge, to have most of our guys refreshed and ready to go back-to-back games helps a lot.”
Despite the improved performances, Buchanan said his side were not getting ahead of themselves.
“It’s good that we’ve put ourselves back in it over the last month but we’re still a long way away from even talking about finals,” he said.
“We’ve got to keep improving each week, we can’t get caught up in our previous results because we know from our start, how quickly things can change.”
Now 12th on the ladder, the Seagulls will head to Piggabeen Sports Complex to face another confident side in Tweed Heads, who are coming off a win over the Sunshine Coast Falcons.
“They’re a very good side and very physical,” Buchanan said.
“But I feel we’re ready for a big challenge and this week will definitely be one.
Kick-off is 2pm Sunday.
