Colombian national Andres Benito Trujillo Silva, 30, granted bail on multiple assault charges

A Colombian man with no fixed address or Visa whom police allege left multiple people bloody with vicious bites has been granted bail to reside in Brisbane.

A Colombian national with no Visa whom police allege bit multiple people drawing blood and threatened a woman with a knife, has been granted bail despite allegedly breaching existing bail conditions.

Andres Benito Trujillo Silva, 30, appeared with the assistance of an interpreter at Wynnum Magistrates Court on Monday.

Among his “six serious criminal offences” Trujillo Silva faces a count of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence), assault occasioning bodily harm, common assault and a breach of bail.

Police will allege the defendant, who came to Australia in 2014 on a student Visa to learn English, on July 3 last year bit a woman on the arm with such force it broke the skin drawing blood.

On August 14 police allege Trujillo Silva refused to leave a residence during a social get together after he stroked a woman’s leg uninvited and placed his hand on hers.

When a male resident learnt of the alleged incident he asked Trujillo Silva to leave but he allegedly refused.

According to police, the two men allegedly scuffled before Trujillo Silva bit the man on the forearm, drawing blood.

“These appear to be a consistent behaviour, these (alleged) offences involve violence; there are similarities among the very concerning (alleged) assaults,” police prosecutor Senior Constable Duncan Blackburn said.

“The defendant was on bail, (allegedly) breached his bail and is alleged to have continued with this type of behaviour and the prosecution thinks he is an unacceptable risk to the community.”

Defence solicitor Sacha Mackness said her client would be contesting the charges and required legal aid funding.

Trujillo Silva has long-term arrangements at Brisbane City boarding houses and has financial support from family, according to Ms Mackness.

Magistrate Ann Gummow noted the defendant was likely a person of interest of Australian Border Force and “either has to apply for a Visa or go home”, before granting him bail under “strict” conditions.

Trujillo Silva must reside at either a West End or Brisbane City hostel and report to the West End Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 8.30am – 3.30pm.

He is next due to appear before court on April 4.
