A new Brisbane business owner wants to create joy and opportunities for people needing a second chance as she launches a new cafe, the only of its kind, in a booming retail precinct.

A Brisbane cafe owner is combining a childhood favourite with the beverage adults love most to create the city’s only venue of its kind.

Baysider Carmen Klitscher will open the doors to her new cafe, Coffee n Bricks, in Wynnum’s rising CBD retail precinct on Saturday.

The Bay Tce cafe will be Brisbane’s first cafe where customers can use LEGO bricks and build their favourite structures while enjoying a coffee.

Ms Klitscher, who is new to the hospitality industry herself, also said the cafe has hired eight first-time baristas, including mature-age employees, as she looked to give people an employment boost following Covid.

“I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while after the pandemic when struggles hit a lot of people,” she said.

“Whether people are just down after what has happened in the past year and a half or some needed help getting back into the workforce.

“I just wanted to help in any small way possible and hope this cafe can do that by allowing people to do something enjoyable and have a coffee all while in a non-threatening and comfortable environment with a feel-good atmosphere.”

Coffee n Bricks will be one of two new businesses opening in the bayside suburb’s CBD this weekend with pinball bar, Multiball Mania, also launching this weekend.

Ms Klitscher, who has years of experience volunteering for various community groups and most recently worked at Redlands Hospital, said she hoped she could give the area something different.

“We’re really excited to open a venue with something different that hopefully people will enjoy,” she said.

“It’s going to be a process as we open as most employees are first-time baristas and just completed barista training.

“But I’m sure we’ll get better and better over time.”

Coffee n Bricks will open at 10am on Saturday.
