Brew Partners opens market for small craft brews at $15m facility

A CENTRE geared for start-up brewers is set to open later this year in east Brisbane as the city’s craft beer boom continues.

EXPLAINER: Hipster's rejoice! Budget to make craft beer cheaper

A $15 million brewing centre geared for smaller brewers has been approved for Morningside.

Brisbane Brew Partners will be built on a greenfield site at Colmslie Rd, Morningside and expected to open at the end of the year.

The approval follows Scottish craft brewer BrewDog setting up its headquarters at Murarrie and the Revel Brewing Co opening at Oxford St, Bulimba.

Councillor Kara Cook (Morningside) said the innovative new Morningside brewery would act as an incubator for small brewers and start-ups.

“It’s an interesting concept that shows how popular the craft beer market is becoming,” Cr Cook said.

The brewery will include a brewhouse, fermenters and brite tanks for single and double batches, packaging facilities for kegs, bottles and cans, a laboratory for quality control and cool room storage.

Brisbane Brew Partners is expected to create 60 full-time and part-time jobs over the next five years.

Cr Cook said it was great to see business investing in the area and called on the council to back them by building better roads.

“Lytton Rd is taking increasing amounts of heavy traffic and the infrastructure badly needs to keep pace with growth,” she said.

Cr Cook said the installation of lights at the corner of Lytton Rd and Col Gardiner Dr, which runs down to the Colmslie Recreation Reserve, was her top priority for funding in this year’s budget but was rejected.

She said the roundabout at the corner of Lytton, Colmslie and Junction roads was a bottleneck that needed urgent attention.
