BRISBANE Bullets and Australian Boomers basketball star Nathan Sobey has appealed for help after his history-making bronze medal from the Tokyo Olympic Games was stolen.

In a social media post, the Bullets guard revealed his house was broken into last night and it is believed his medal along with a small amount of cash was taken.

“Unfortunately last night, our house was broken into and my bronze medal was stolen along with some other small things,” Sobey’s Twitter post said.

“If anyone out there has any information please let us know.”

Sobey was part of the Boomers team, who made history by winning the first major international medal for an Australian men’s basketball team when they beat Slovenia in the bronze medal match last August.

It was even more special for the 31-year-old, who was initially not included in the Boomers squad but forced his way into the team through a dominant 2020/21 NBL season with the Bullets.

Sobey’s manager, Jye Watson, said having the Olympic medal stolen was a devastating loss for the Warnambool product.

“It’s not only an irreplaceable item but its the first Olympic medal for Australian men’s basketball,” he said.

“We really hope it’s returned as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
