Vandals smash 17 cars in one Brisbane street

Police have released video of a car whose owner they wish to speak with after an overnight vandalism rampage on the southside.

Residents in three Annerley streets woke this morning, Monday May 27, to huge damage bills after 17 vehicles were targeted including a BMW.

A white SUV can be seen stopping near some of the cars later found damaged, before speeding off.

Investigators this afternoon released vision of the vehicle of interest and said they would like to speak to anyone who might recognise it or may have any information or relevant footage.

The cars were found with significant damage, including smashed windows, around Victoria Terrace and Prince and Duke streets.

Residents of the “usually quiet” Prince Street have described the shock of waking up to the results of the overnight rampage.

Some have described footage of young people arriving in the street in a Subaru and using what appears to be a hammer to cause some of the damage.

“A young couple from across the street had their car completely smashed and they came out just absolutely shocked,” one resident said.

“They had their dad come over and help them and no doubt it’s very stressful for them.

“I heard some yelling and a little commotion overnight around 3am but never heard any smashing or anything like that.

“It’s a horrible thing to happen here, we never ever have anything like this happen.”

Another resident said his CCTV footage only caught the police going through with torches after the incident had happened and never caught the vandals damaging the cars.

Along with cars on Prince St, several cars on Victoria Tce, including one parked inside a private residence, were also damaged.

Tow trucks and RACQ vehicles have been on the scene this morning.

A resident of Prince St said his CCTV footage, which was currently in the hands of police, caught a car pulling up on the street and starting to damage one of the cars.

He said it appeared to be young people who got out of the cars.

“It’s bad and shocking but if they get caught, the justice system won’t do anything about it anyway so it doesn’t matter,” he said.

He also said it didn’t wake him up but it woke his wife up.
