Alan Wolstencroft, 33: Brisbane man jailed for molesting girl

A Brisbane man has been jailed for molesting a 12-year-old girl on consecutive days, blaming his childhood bullying for his offending.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

A Brisbane man molested a 12-year-old girl on consecutive days, groping her breasts under her bra and her buttocks, and attempting to kiss her on the lips, a court has heard.

Sunnybank man Alan Wolstencroft, 33, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Wednesday to two counts of indecently treating a child under the age of 16.

Both offences occurred at an address in Inala, in the evening on May 3–4 last year.

The first time, Wolstencroft groped the girl’s breasts, over her bra and then under the bra, for about 10 minutes.

The court was told he asked her: “Doesn’t this feel nice?”

The next night, about the same time in the evening, Wolstencroft groped the girl’s breasts under her bra for an extended period before touching her bottom for about another five minutes, the court heard.

“How much do you like this?” Wolstencroft asked her, before attempting to kiss her on the lips.

The court heard when he was confronted, Wolstencroft attempted to pass off the incidents as an “accidental boob grab” before breaking down and saying repeatedly: “Call the cops”.

Crown prosecutor Julie Aylward said Wolstencroft’s offending was “predatory, persistent and incredibly brazen”.

The court heard the offending against the 12-year-old girl was compounded by her previously being the victim of a much more serious sexual assault.

The offender in that assault was jailed for five-and-a-half years.

It was submitted on Wolstencroft’s behalf that his offending was fuelled by childhood trauma where he was forced to often move, attending many schools including Woodridge and Arana Hills. As a result he suffered severe bullying.

His “need for acceptance” led him to perform feats at the behest of cruel peers such as putting dog faeces in his shoes and walking around in them, and eating rubbish, the court heard.

Wolstencroft has not worked for the past five years due the state of his mental health.

He denied, when questioned by Judge Paul Smith, to having pedophilic tendencies.

But Judge Smith concluded there “must have been some” element of sexual attraction.

He sentenced Wolstencroft to nine months’ jail, suspended after serving two weeks, and 18 months’ probation.
