Shiloh Tiatia: Darra woman fined for Logan Village road rage assault

A woman has been fined and ordered to pay compensation after an alleged incident of tailgating caused her to snap.

Aussie road rage on the rise

A woman grabbed a motorist by his shirt and punched him several times to the head and face before snatching his expensive prescription glasses off his head, never to be seen again, a court has heard.

Darra woman Shiloh Moli Tiatia, 25, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday to two charges, stealing and unlawful entry of vehicle for committing an indictable offence, both committed last year in her former home suburb of Logan Village.

The court heard the violent confrontation occurred on October 22 last year about 5pm.

The victim was driving on Logan Village Rd behind Tiatia’s sister’s Mazda CX3, in which Tiatia, who appeared in court as Shepherd Tiatia, was the passenger.

As the two cars approached Stoneleigh Reserve Blvd, Tiatia “threw a cup of Fanta” at the victim’s car, the court heard.

The victim followed Tiatia and her sister, intending to record the licence number to make a complaint.

Tiatia’s car stopped and she emerged in a rage to confront the hapless victim, who was seated in his car.

Tiatia “grabbed him by the front of his shirt and punched him several times in the face and head,” the court heard, before snatching the prescription glasses of his head and throwing them into nearby bushes.

The glasses were never recovered.

Tiatia was interviewed in mid-2020 by police at her Darra residence, where she claimed she “got frustrated (the victim) was tailgating my sister” and admitted to reaching inside the vehicle but denied throwing punches.

The sister was not charged with any offences and there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing.

Magistrate Clare Kelly commented Tiatia was “very lucky” to not be charged with assault.

She urged Tiatia to approach future road conflicts “much more peacefully and civilly”.

Tiatia was fined $300 and ordered to pay $350 compensation to the victim.

No convictions were recorded.
